Project Services: VGCOM LLC is retained to perform BECx for the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT)’s New Academic Building project. The building is located directly behind and is connected to the Feldman Center, in a 75-foot setback from the West 28th Street property line. The project’s design reflects FIT’s embrace of openness, exploration and the robust exchange of ideas and enliven West 28th Street, bringing light and animation to the street level. The building is a 10-story, approximately 110,000 ft2, targeting LEED Gold and will provide much-needed additional spaces including smart classrooms, studios, student assembly space, and administrative offices.

The following services were provided:

Per LEED v4, VGCOM completed the following BECx processes and activities related to the building envelope systems:

  1. Reviewed the selected approved contractor submittals as specified in the contract documents related to the building
  2. Prepared Isssue log
  3. Verified inclusion of systems manual requirements in construction documents.
  4. Verified inclusion of operator and occupant training requirements in construction documents.
  5. Verified systems manual updates and delivery.
  6. Verified operator and occupant training delivery and effectiveness.
  7. Verified seasonal testing.
  8. VGCOM to review building operations 10 months after substantial completion.
  9. Developed an ongoing commissioning plan.

VGCOM performed multiple site visits for various mock-up tests and witnessed several performance testing.
