Project Description: Electric Heat-Pump Water Heaters for the entire building
Market Type: Multifamily- Residential Building
Building Location: 140 8th Ave, Brooklyn, NY
Building Size: 97,000 ft2
Project Services: VGCOM provided electric DHW heater design services to this building. Existing steam boiler is used to provide steam and DHW to the building and was existing to remain. DHW produced by the boiler is sent to a three-prong electronic mixing valve’s ‘hot’ inlet, DHW return from the building mixes with city cold water which goes to the ‘cold’ inlet of the electronic mixing valve, and based on building’s DHW supply temperature requirement, tempered DHW is sent to the building for residents’ use. The overall DHW system is existing to remain. Once the electric water heaters are installed, the hot water from the heaters will be sent to the ‘hot’ inlet of the existing electronic mixing valve.
Based on the usage in this building using the total fixtures including 94 kitchens, 122 bathrooms, and 6 washing machines, we evaluated various capacity DHWs. We recommend two (2) PVI Durawatt Model 920 L 300A-VE electric DHW heaters which will be sufficient to provide DHW to all apartments and laundry machines located in the basement. The new electric DHW heaters will be installed in the boiler room. It should be noted that the existing electronic mixing valve and all associated piping will be existing to remain.
